WGM: Water industry Awards Finalist!

WGM are delighted to be announced as one of only three finalists in the prestigious, UK Water Industry Awards 2021, in the category, ”Net Zero Carbon Initiative of the Year”.  We share the stage with two of the UK’s foremost water sector pioneers and we wish both Anglian Water and nmcn the best of luck. Our submission, related to Storm Tank Scraper Bridges, showcases the significant positive impact of working collaboratively with our major client, Scottish Water, in addressing the current climate crisis.  Both WGM and Scottish Water have ambitious carbon reduction targets and we are delighted to be able to support Scottish Water’s Net Zero Routemap, that sets out a journey to Net Zero emissions by 2040.

Having been appointed as Principal Contractor for the £17m refurbishment of Dalmarnock WwTW,  WGM worked closely with Scottish Water in identifying opportunities to deploy our Circular Economy based, MEICA Investment Strategy.  This innovative strategy is founded on the principles of Refurbishment and re-use rather than Replacement and we are grateful to Scottish Water for being bold and embracing this transformative way of thinking.

Our approach relies on being regenerative by design, retaining as much value as possible from products, parts and materials, thus reducing the use of raw materials and ultimately, reducing carbon emissions and waste.  By re-engineering and modernising the four Storm Tank Scraper Bridges at Dalmarnock WwTW, rather than the original replacement scope,  WGM delivered a significant carbon emission reduction of over 80,000Kg/CO2e.  This approach absolutely aligns with WGM and Scottish Water’s ambitious carbon emissions reduction targets and we are delighted to have been recognised for this innovative strategy, by the Water Industry Awards panel.  We look forward to the Awards Ceremony on 27th May 2021 and are excited about future collaboration with Scottish Water, on similar carbon saving opportunities, as we embark on joint Net Zero journey.
