From the original 3 man set up in modest premises, the company
now employs in excess of 150 personnel and operates from two interlinked
but separate sites.
As managing director Ian Mathieson explained "WGM commenced
trading in 1986 and was then primarily involved in sealing devices
distributing a wide range of mechanical seals and packings manufactured
by First 4 Seals.
Mr Mathieson continued "However due to industry and client
demand, WGM developed it's operations to suit the marketplace
offering mechanical, electrical and civil provision under the
one roof. A venture which proved highly successful as the company
has grown rapidly year on year since then.
This ongoing growth has resulted in making WGM one of Scotland's
largest and most successful private engineering companies.
Indeed so successful has the company become in the last past
25 years that it has recorded sales of over £12.5 million
in the last financial year and now excels in delivering walk away
engineering solutions from start to finish.
Mr Mathieson went on "Our experience and resource covers
a variety of industries as our markets lie in the water and waste
water sectors, petrochemical, power and process areas as well
as food and beverage.
We service these sectors from 2 modern and flexible service centres
where the most and advanced equipment is available to carry out
repairs and reclamation to our clients assets and from which,
design, build, technical back up, site survey, installation, commissioning
and after market services are offered.
These sites are located at Glasgow & Livingston.
Mr Mathieson said “ I would like to emphasise that we offer
a total service which we consider to be unique within the market
place and all our disciplines are carried out under the one roof".
He added our recent investment to build a bespoke 15,000 ft2
state of the art service centre which is to our new workshop and
head office complex. The workshop houses an extended machining
facility, new motor rewind centre, 25 tonne overhead crane, new
shot blasting suite, pump repair workshop, dynamic balancing for
rotating equipment and a state of the art pump test facility.
The new premises represent the biggest single investment in WGM’s
history and reflect our ongoing commitment to improving quality
and service provision to our customers.
The development has taken considerably longer than first anticipated
but the emphasis was to ensure we got it right. Consultation involving
staff across the business resulted in numerous redesigns’
culminating in a facility that we are all very proud of.
Our Livingston Service Centre has undergone substantial investment
and incorporates a state of the art valve refurbishment and test
facility, large fabrication work shop , bridge refurbishment and
large gearbox refurbishment centre.
The business offers a 24-hour service and a policy of on-going
investment in plant and training company-wide.
WGM offer customers a quality service and products, for this
we are indebted to the skills and dedication of our workforce
without which we would not be in this position today.
